Talking of the town’s main park, the Parque de las Americas, it’s going to receive a facelift, as well. The town’s skint (broke) but as voters have to be ‘stimulated,’ money from somewhere will be found – or borrowed – to impress them, naturally.
Accordingly, 60,000 euros (as the Town Hall still thinks in Pesetas, that’s exactly ten million) will be spent on the park. Most of the work will be carried out on the central pond and overhauling the pipe work.
It’s hardly surprising that this announcement has been made, seeing as the main opposition party, the PSOE, criticised the ‘state’ of the park.
The main problem with the central pond is that there was no circulation system, meaning that the water stagnates and is emptied away and replaced, costing around 700 euros a year – this will be a thing of the past. Part of the project also sees a central water feature, providing an 8m jet of water into the air.
