If you liked the concerts offered by the Philharmonic Orchestra of Cologne in La Herradura and Salobreña, then you will be delighted to learn that Motril will be hosting six consecutive days of concerts!
Música Sur 2010 will begin on the 25th and conclude on the 30th with the performance of the Motril pianist, Juan Carlos Garvayo, who is also the festival organiser.
If Jazz en la Costa puts Almuñécar on the international stage every year, then Música Sur is proving to do the same for Motril.
Amongst those performing during the festival are The Diotima Quartet from France and the Canadian violinist, Alexandre Da Costa, who returns to Motril a second time with his Stradivarius.
“Many of the musicians have drastically reduced their cachet, in some cases only asking to have their travelling and accommodation expenses covered,” explained Sr. Garvayo.
The crisis threatened to sink the festival but disaster was finally avoided by putting an entrance charge on the concerts – the previous two years had been free. Jazz en la Costa was also originally a free-admittance concert but putting a fee at the gate has only served to make it more popular. Hopefully Músico Sur will find the same glad acceptance from music goers.
The concert also has its sponsors, of course, amongst them: Motril Port Authorities, Ron Montero, Hotel Salobreña, Restaurante Katena and Pianos Francis.
