Russian Sets Light to Woman

A Russian man, ex military of some 45 years of age, poured 96º alcohol over the back of a female friend and set light to her, causing first and second-degree burns – this took place along the Rambla del Piojo in Motril.

General Strike: Mixed Results

As of Midday, the strike is obtaining different results depending on the size of the town. In Almuñécar it is almost non-existent with the only sign of a general strike, apart from the occasional closed shop, is the rubbish that was not collected in the early hours of the morning.

The Troublesome Avenida

Even while Avenida de Salobreña was still being finished, there were many who were not impressed by its emerging layout: all that parking eliminated; tight roundabouts and little separation between pedestrians and the bus lane; not to mention all those unregulated pedestrian crossings. And then, so after its inauguration, the traffic accidents started to occur…

Peace at Last!

The squabble between Torrenueva and its ertswhile masters, Motril has finally come to a peaceful conclusion, terminating in a document signed by the leaders of both towns. This was a dispute that even had the Torrenueva Mayor, Manuel Carrascosa, staging a sit-in within the Motril Town Hall, refusing to budge until “Torrenueva got what Torrenueva deserved.”

Paellazo

The title is a wonderful Spanish term, probably just coined by a word wizard, to describe what happened in the Avenida de Salobreña during the early hours of yesterday, when a car landed in one of the large, plate-like fountains. The fountain is round and large, like a paella dish, so it wasn’t long before it acquired the local nickname of ‘la paellera.’

In Search of Blood

Marina del Este, together with the rest of the marinas belonging to the Asociación de Puertos Deportivos y Turísticos Marinas de Andalucía, is taking the Consejería de Obras Públicas de la Junta de Andalucía to court, as well as the Agencia Pública de Puertos de Andalucía (APPA). As you can imagine, this is a fair indication that they are not happy bunnies.
