Boat People Rescued

It has been a busy Semana Santa for the Guardia Civil’s maritime rescue service, having intercepted two separate craft crammed with illegal immigrants.

The first was found 24 nautical miles to the south east of Cabo de Sacratif (where the light house is, just east of Torrenueva). Aboard were 51 Sub-Saharans; i.e. from south of the Sahara Desert, amongst whom were six women and a child.

Mere hours later a second craft was intercepted just eight nautical miles south east of the same point, this time with 42 North Africans, amongst whom were five minors.

These two interceptions have been the most significant in as far as numbers on board are concerned, so far this year off the Costa Tropical.
