Fire Figures Up

This time last year the number of mountain fires in the province of Granada stood at seven – this year it has already reached 66. having had a dry winter and spring things aren’t looking good.

Premature Rejoicing

Somebody has tried setting light to Cerro Gordo, yet again, just when it was thought that the culprit had been caught. This latest fire broke out on the 27th.

Fire Above Cantarrijan

A mountain fire broke out on the 6th at Cerro Gordo, just below the parking area of the entrance road for Playa Cantarrijan. Fortunately, the rapid intervention of fire-fighting teams managed to extinguish the flames before they could spread further.

Ecologists Hit Out Over Gualchos Fire

The ecologist group, Buxus has described the recent Gualchos, mountain-brush fire as an ‘ecological disaster.’ The group condemns the fact there have been 20 attempts to set the area alight in recent years.

Helicopter Crash Update

The two, major, national worker’s unions, UGT and CCOO consider that it is more than likely that the cause of the accident involving a Augusta Bell 412 helicopter in the Barranco de la Farsaílla, near Quentar in Granada, was a mechanical failure.

Gualchos Brush Fire

One hundred hectares of mountain shrub went up in flames near Gualchos on the 19th, making it the largest incident of its kind in the province of Granada this year.

At Least Two Dead in Helicopter Crash

At least two people are dead following a helicopter crash, this morning, in the area known as La Fuente de la Gitana, which is in the Granada province between Tocón de Quéntar and La Peza. It also appears there are several people injured.

A brush fire broke out at 13.30 on Thursday 22nd in the Gelibra area (Los Perez), which is a hamlet/cortijada up above Torrecuevas, almost within the Jete municipal border.
