IBI Up Again in Salobreña

The Salobreña Town Council has approved an increase in the IBI (property tax) From 0.4% to 1.0%, which, according to the IU (left wing) party, makes the total increase so far as 40%.

Culture in the Rain

During the rainy second week of July we paid a visit to Sweden to meet our dear friends and undertake a cultural trip to the beautiful landscape of Dalecarlia, this time with the main purpose of educating ourselves in the field of classical music. We arrived at our hotel in Tällberg in pouring rain, and thus did not see much of the beautiful landscape. Divers belonging to the Guardia Civil managed to recover the body of a drown man, entangled in an illegal net of Playa El Tesorillo, Almuñécar, Costa Tropical.

Following the article published in the Seaside Gazette concerning the German resident in Salobreña who was to be tried for kidnapping and sexual aggression against a compatriot female neighbour, the judge has reached a verdict and passed down the sentence.

The west African country of Togo endured a week long strike by a great many of its women. They decided to stage a one week sex strike in support of a call for the resignation of the country’s long standing president, Faure Gnassingbe, whose family have managed to maintain power for decades.

Controversial Eviction in Padul

A widow, her two daughters and a granddaughter were evicted from their home in 13 Virgen de las Nieves in Padul. The Guardia Civil carried out the eviction after Banco de Santander acquired the court order.

Not Fun

A 53-year-old motorcyclist not only came off his bike on the A-92, which is painful at the best of times, but a lorry ran over him. He must have been thinking how lucky he was that the wheel passed either side of him, but then his leather jacket snagged on the chassis and off they all went.

Castell Chiringuito Fire

Castell de Ferro’s Chiringuito Bajamare was completely gutted by fire. According o the Mayor, Eloy Marín, said that there had been a previous attempt to torch the chiringuito on Playa Cambriles, but which the Motril Fire Service had managed to put out before it could do much damage.

False Rape Claim

The Policia Nacional have managed to uncover a false, rape claim by an 18-year-old girl in Granada. A passer-by had found her behind a parked car, in front of a high school at 06.45h, last Sunday morning. She told him that she had been beaten and raped. However, when the man went to find her some water, she disappeared, only to report having been raped later directly to the police.
