A widow, her two daughters and a granddaughter were evicted from their home in 13 Virgen de las Nieves in Padul. The Guardia Civil carried out the eviction after Banco de Santander acquired the court order.
The Guardia Civil cordoned off the area whilst Town Hall workers used a disk cutter to remove the iron bars on the door.
Members of the action group, Stop Desahucios (Stop Evictions) tried to prevent the process and denounced the ‘dark interests’ behind the process; according to this group the house was bought by a man from Málaga who had the woman working for him some time back. Allegedly the purchaser had attempted to initiate a ‘relationship’ with the woman, who rebuffed his advances. The action group believes that the purchase of the house was a form of putting pressure on the woman.
During the most tense moments of the eviction, the Guardia Civil lead away five members of the action group ‘only to identify them,’ but they were never formally arrested.
Stop Desahucios also had hard words for the Town Council, which approved unanimously a motion to not participate in any evictions; however, there were town-hall workers involved with this eviction.
