New Mayor Takes Up Office

Luisa García Chamorro has become the first female mayor of Motril in its long history. She takes over from Carlos Rojas, who has unwillingly vacated the mayoralty to become a regional member of parliament.

The Teaching Bond

ESO3-level pupils from Órgiva’s secondary school, IES Alpujarra put on a charity performance to raise funds for the local branch of the AECC (cancer association). The reason: one of the English teachers in the school was diagnosed with cancer this year.

Toll Roads and Death Toll

Acid Attack

A 29-year-old Spanish woman received deep chemical burns to 2% of her body, mainly on her face, after an unidentified man approached her and threw acid into her face.

Scruffs Success in Torrox

The first of this year’s annual Costa Animal Society dog shows took place on May 26 and raised 1,950 euros for the charity. Scruffs Torrox 2012 was held at the Andale Riding Centre and attracted 49 dogs who were judged in 11 classes.

Licencia Express

The Nerja Town Hall has agreed to express its support in the next full plenary meeting of the Council for what is known as licencia express, which is designed to make the setting up of business much easier.

Nash Bash Cash

Russel Nash of Nash Music has handed over the 522 euros in takings from their charity concert on the 6th of June to the Asociación de Prevención y Ayuda al Toxicómano (APAT) in Almuñécar.
