It’s Official

Anybody who has lived here since the Peseta days will have had the impression that things have become much more expensive since the Euro came in – well, it’s not just an impression, because according to a study carried out by the major Spanish bank, BBVA, prices have risen by a stunning 45% since 1999, which was when the Euro came in here.

Iberia Strike Looming

The Iberia airline pilots are planning to strike every Friday and Monday from the 9th of April, in protest over the creation of Iberia Express low-cost affiliation, which began operating on the 25th of March.

General Strike: Mixed Results

As of Midday, the strike is obtaining different results depending on the size of the town. In Almuñécar it is almost non-existent with the only sign of a general strike, apart from the occasional closed shop, is the rubbish that was not collected in the early hours of the morning.

Spanish General Strike, 29th March

On the 9th of March the two most powerful national worker unions, the CCOO & UGT, jointly announced that that would be convoking a nationwide general strike in answer to the conservative government’s labour reforms.
