Nine Times Over

SPN Guardia Breathalyzing OnLWednesday the 31st saw the arrest of a lorry driver who was 9-times over the alcohol limit and refusing to take a blood test.

The 36-year-old lorry driver had been involved in an accident on the A-2 within the municipality of Alovera with another articulated lorry – neither vehicle was seriously damaged nor anybody injured.

The police had arrived to take statements and survey the accident scene but had noticed that the said driver was showing signs of being drunk. He was breathalyzed giving a reading of 1.48mg/litre of air exhaled. However, he refused to give a blood sample.

He was arrested because of this refusal and taken to the Hospital Universitario de Guadalajara for examination.

He has been charged with driving under the influence and disobeying instructions from the police.

It was only a week or so ago that a 56-year old Spaniard from the Basque Lands achieved the dubious honour of having been stopped with the highest alcohol/blood stream level in the world – he was ten times over the limit.
