Several items of photographic equipment had been stolen from a car in Tenerife (Canary Islands) in April and the said lens was one of the stolen items.
When the member of a local police force in Extremadura received the package containing the lens, he realized that it might be an item that had been reported as stolen because its serial number had been erased.
The policeman immediately approached the Policia Nacional and an operation to locate and arrest the seller was put into place.
The police operation concluded with the arrest of the said man, thanks to a ruse involving making the seller believe that the lens had arrived in a damaged state and that the purchaser wanted his money back.
The arrest took place at a meeting point between both parties when the accused turned up in his car. The police searched the car and found more items from the same theft, whose value is calculated at 30,000 euros.
The accused has no criminal record and is charged with having received stolen goods, rather than having stolen them himself. Police investigations continue to find out who carried out the original act of theft.
