Professional Diver Course Concludes

There were 60 applicants for the 15-place, professional-diver course in La Herradura, so if for no other reason, it was a success. It was the first such course to be held on the Costa Tropical.

Luis Pellejero, who runs the Centro de Buceo La Herradura and thus the course, explained how the students underwent 440 hours, split between theory and practice, with each trainee doing around 40 dives each.

Subjects covered were underwater welding and cutting, the use of hydrostatic balloons (whatever they are?), orientation and the general use of tools. Divers learnt how to use both autonomous and surface-supplied air.

According to Luis, the centre will soon begin a level-1 diving course, for immersions up to 30 metres and he says that there is a possibility of working with the FP (Formacion Professional; i.e., politechnic college) for level-2 dives down to 50 metres.
