Two middle-aged men were arrested by the Green Meanies within the municipality of Vélez de Benaudalla, apparently caught in the act of stealing fuel from parked vehicles.

Anyway, this happened in the early hours of this Monday, down on the N-323 in the parking area in front of Restaurante El Surtidor. That is an assumption, given that the Guardia Civil press release just speaks of a “vehicle rest area.”
A Guardia Civil patrol out of Salobreña had come across three individuals, who, upon realising that the Green Meanies had spotted them, attempted a Harry Houdini making for the hillside behind this area.
The officers, happy that a boring patrol had turned into a spot of fun, gave pursuit, catching two whilst the third did a Sherpa impression and got clean away
With the suspects cuffed and locked in the back of the vehicle under the keen eye of one of the officers, the other scoured the parking area and found a lorry with its fuel-cap off and another lorry which had been forced open, from which a length of tube was protruding, as well as several fuel container standing next to it.
It didn’t take the discerning eye of a Sherlock Homes to come to the conclusion that they were syphoning the diesel out… rather than generously topping up the lorry’s tanks in a Good Samaritain gesture.
There was an estate car, parked next to two lorry cabs and a mini excatvator, which upon inspection contained several fuel containers, ski masks and gloves.
Unsurprisingly, the two suspects were arrested, charged with attempted theft, as well as damage to property and brought before the Motril Night Court. The Guardia Civil remains quite keen to locate the third gentleman.
