This Sunday our lives will be jumbled around because of a pointless, hour-change system, inducing a mini jet-lag into our circadian rhythms when 03.00h flips back to 02.00h and suddenly its dark at seven in the evening.

It’s bad enough that Spain’s dictator, Franco, believing that Hitler had the war in the bag in 1941, decided to put Spain on Berlin time, which is still the situation today, otherwise not just the Canary Islands would share GMT but also mainland Spain

In fact, it is ludicrous that there are cries to remove regime names from streets and pull down statues of Franco & The Boys, but leave us at the mercy, every last one of us, of this Franconian idiocy.

But anyway, the question is how many more years will this twice-a-year, upheaval, nonsense prevail?

Well, the European Union has decided that we will continue on this merry-go-round for the next five years at least. Yes, condemned we are, to one day of 25 hours in October and one day of 23 hours March, for the next five years.

• 2027: 28th March and the 31st of October.

• 2028: 26th March and the 29th of October.

• 2029: 25th March and the 28th of October.

• 2030: 31st March and the 27th of October.

• 2031: 30th March and the 26th of October.

Will Trump have carried out a coup before then and started World War III? Well, if he does, then we’ll all be glowing in the dark anyway, so what does it matter if it gets dark earlier or later!
