Arson in Salobreña?

Residents of Salobreña will already know about the wave of fires on the vega and around town on the in the early hours of the 22nd of this month.

Several rubbish hoppers went up, as well as street furniture, and a vehicle in the TH1 area; i.e., the area where they (one day) will build the hotels next to the beach.

The Motril Fire Department, as well as the Salobreña Policía Local, Protección Civil and the Guardia Civil. was called out to deal with them.

The four rubbish hoppers that were destroyed were not all together but in different areas around town. As for the vehicle, it was around 10.00h that a van was set on fire and ended up completely burnt out. The flames from the fire also caught some of the wild can near it.

The fire service brought two of their fire trucks to deal with the burning van and the wild cane. By the time that the fire was out, around 1,865 sq/m of cane had gone up.

Editorial comment: Obviously, this was the work of an arsonist alone or with accomplices. Unfortunately, we missed reporting on this incident at the time as we have been busy getting the September magazine ready for the printer.
