Convergencia Andaluza (CA) in Almuñécar has raised the alarm that there might be drastic cuts to the hours that the El Castillo and Los Marinos doctors’ surgeries will attend to patients.

They consider that these reductions might even lead to the permanent closure of these doctors’ surgeries in these two barrios in Almuñécar
The CA blames the Junta de Andalucía for the reductions, though they point out that initial reductions began when the PSOE socialists were running the regional administration.
At the moment the daily hours have been reduced to just 40 minutes in Los Marinos and 61 minutes in El Castillo. The CA considers that this severely impacts the high number of elderly residents with mobility issues living in these areas.
Surgeries’ patient numbers dropped from 1,600 in 2019 to 900 by 2026, as 700 residents were transferred to the main Centro de Salud on the P-4 on Calle Chinguetti.
The CA considers that the transferring of patients who live in these two barrios to the doctors’ list in the Centro de Salud as a means to close down the said doctors’ surgeries and demand that the Junta reverses these changes by restoring the original operating hours.
Editorial comment: this will affect Dave Darby as his doctor is in the Barrio El Castillo
