Four standard-issue firearms have gone missing from the Policía Local building in Rincón de la Victoria. These handguns had been handed in by officers upon their retirement and hadn’t yet been reassigned to active-duty personnel.
Upon discovering the theft, the Head of the Local Police filed a formal complaint at the Cuartel de la Guardia Civil in the municipality, where he was no doubt met with smirks and the rolling of eyes.
The absence of the pistols was discovered during the annual inspection of the standard-issue weapons carried out by the Policía Local and the Guardia Civil’s Arms and Explosives Intervention Unit. The missing weapons had been stored in a secure area within the police station…
Both the Town Council and the Police Chief say that they are “fully and continuously cooperating with this process, providing all required information and documentation to help quickly clarify the facts.”
Besides the Guardia Civil investigation into the theft, the Town Council has also started an internal enquiry to discover what failed in the weapons-custody protocol.
