We say three earth tremors but there have, in fact, been eleven in Spain yesterday up to 21.00h but only two in the Province of Granada.

The first was in the morning (08.39h) with a magnitude of 1.9 on the Richter Scale with its epicentre below Gójar, eleven kilometres down. Remember, the closer to the surface, the greater the effect, so a 1.9 at only one kilometre down is going to shake the rivets out of your aircon unit.

The second was in the Metropolitan Area of Granada, occurring at precisely 18.43h. According to the Sistema Geográfico Nacional, the epicentre was below La Zubia, with a magnitude of 3.7 on the Richter Scale, some five kilometres down.

The last one before finishing this article was at 20.03h with the epicentre below Otura, which is still in the Metropolitan/Vega area. It registered 2.2 on the richter scale but the depth at which it occurred had still not been published.

The other eight earth tremors occurred out to sea, either in the Med (Alboran) or the Atlantic (Canary Islands/Cape Saint Vincent) with the exception of one in Málaga (Alhaurín de La Torre.) which registered 2.2 but 82 kilometres down at 15.00h.

Update: just felt another one at 01.04h today up here in Dúrcal with a magnitude of 5.0 on the Richter Scale (making it an earthquake) with an epicentre under Alhendín, which was widely felt all the way up to Madrid. This has been followed by another 40 seismic movements this morning, all but two around Granada.
