Kart-Cross Racing in La Rábita

It’s that time of year again when demons in buggies will be haring around an old section of the N-340 down la Rábita way, which is going to be fun. But it’s not just customised buggies but modified cars, too.

This Sunday, the XIII La Rábita Time Trial will host the fifth scoring round of the Campeonato de Andalucía de Cronometradas and is also valid for the Granada Provincial Council Cup.

The competition, organised by C.D. CODA, will bring together twenty-six drivers across the Touring Car and Car Cross categories, making it one of the most spectacular events on the Andalusian calendar.

Now, the race course is a very short, covering just one kilometr, connecting La Rábita with the old N-340. This fully paved route runs right alongside the Mediterranean coast, offering a backdrop with drops!

A large turnout is expected throughout the day, so why not pop along?

The Kart Cross category features a dozen specialists, vehicles from MV Racing, Demon Car, Speedcar, Semog and Kincar. Meanwhile, the Touring Car category will feature vehicles from various classes, ranging from agile Peugeot 205 Rallye and Citroën AX models to higher-performance cars like the Renault Clio Rally4, Renault Clio Cup IV, and BMW 330D.

A kart-cross is a racing buggy built from a small tubular chassis and a medium-cylinder motorbike engine (between 500 for twin-cylinder 2-stroke and 650cc for twin-cylinder, 4-stroke engines). Their weight to power ratio means that they go like a bat out of hell.

Things begin at 08:00h with administrative side of the event and inspections on the La Rábita paseo parking area, lasting until 10:30h. The affected road section will be closed of at 10.00h, by the way, so that the racing can begin at 11.00h, with a practice heat.

The two scheduled official heats will follow, with the possibility of a third one if time permits. The trophy ceremony is scheduled for 15:00h at the parking area next to the paseo, once the official results are published.
