Road Accident Update

Do you remember the nasty road accident on the N-340 within the municipality of Salobreña, around the beginning of June? Well there is more information available.

The man who died in the accident, riding shotgun, was the 29-year-old Abraham. His girlfriend was at the wheel and they were returning home after having eaten with her parents.

The was a line of cars in front of them, shuffling forward because of the heavy traffic and the driver had the hazard-warning lights on, as they were the last in the queue.

Suddenly they were violenty shunted out of the lane into the oncoming one as a Mercedes behind hadn’t noticed the traffic was stopped in front and ran straight into the couple’s car.

The couple, dazed, didn’t have time to react and were smashed up against the railing by a large van, killing Abraham and seriously injuring his partner. She was rushed to Hospital Santa Ana and placed in the ICU with severe lung contusion that complicated her recovery. She also suffered pelvis fractures.

She has been discharged but is using a wheelchair and will need intense rehabilitation. Psychologically, she is understandably devastated through having lost the love of her life.

What is even more shocking was the fact that the Mercedes driver had lost all his points and his licence was no longer valid..

Now, normally the car insurance would payout but as the drivers licence wasn’t valid, automatically, nor was his insurance policy, so they are not going to pay out; it will have to come out of Mercedes driver’s personal money.

In the meantime, the family has started a signature collection to toughen penalties “for serious road traffic offences.” They have already gathered approximately 1,000 signatures on the change.org platform. They rightly consider that penalties for serious offences against road safety are inadequate

No licence. Therefore no insurance valid. Life taken. Life ruined. Hopefully they were tested for drink and drugs. Either way. Prison time. They will never be able to pay off a compensation fine, ever. Ok ok. So a moments lack of concentration. But if you’re not allowed to drive. Then the insurance companies will not pay out. What about the injured drivers insurance company. !!
