The summer doesn't only bring lots of tourists to the coast; it also brings a lot of people who struggle with the concept of adjacent ownership; i.e., the light fingered!
Take the case of what happened on the 21st of June in Almuñécar; a Sunday. A Guardia Civil officer who was off-duty and was walking past a supermarket when his inquisitive orbs saw three people in a car who he considered were behaving suspiciously.

The car stopped and two got out, entering a supermarket separately, so he called in requesting information on its number plate and a spot of back up. It all ended with three men, aged between 36 and 58, being arrested.
You see, the off-duty officer had gone into the supermarket to trail the suspects. Sauntering along the shelves, they stood next to elderly people. Then they exited the supermarket separately again and entered a second supermarket – this was obviously on the P-4 in front of the square when the markets are held.
They came out and went to get into their car where the third person was waiting, but this was when the uniformed and off-duty, with a couple of other Green Meanies pounced and searched them. They found that they had a purse that didn’t belong to them.
The purse was returned to the victim and the suspects were taken to the Guardia Civil post to make friends with a room with bars instead of a window, awaiting trial.
Editorial comment: now I am a person who believes that people can mend their ways… however, chopping a hand off is a great incentive to change professions.
