Bank Clerk Arrested

A 28-year-old bank clerk in the Castell de Ferro branch was arrested, suspected of embezzling a bank customers' savings.

The Guardia Civil launched police operation Tec-Kitoko after a complaint was received at the Castell Guardia post on the 24th of April from a victim who had seen 14,000 euros disappear from her account.

The victim had noticed something fishy going on back in January – suspicious bank movements in her account and yet she had not lost her bankcard, so that was ruled out.

It appears that the suspect had illegally ordered a copy of the bankcard, taking advantage of her position and during approximately three months charged purchases to the card and made cash withdrawals with it, allegedly to the tune of 14,672 euros.

The bank branch cooperated with the police investigation as well as launching their own internal investigation, the results of which they passed onto the Guardia Civil. They have suspended her, pending trial.
