Lecrín Town Council, which also governs nearby villages, issued warnings to local residents advising about a potential scam attempt detected in nearby municipalities.

The scam consists of asking for money on public streets under the pretext of financially helping the family of a minor who allegedly needs to undergo a transplant.

According, to the Policía Local in Órgiva, several individuals have been approaching locals, with an appeal to their charitable nature, showing alleged proof of donations made by other people in order to gain their victim’s trust and obtain money.

However, police investigations confirm that the claims are false; merely a scam to trick people into giving them money.

For this reason, the Town Council has asked the population to take extreme precautions and follow a series of basic recommendations, such as avoiding handing over money on the streets, mistrusting instead, stories that cannot be verified, and reporting it to the police.

Above all else, don’t give them personal details and don’t allow them inside if they come knocking. If it’s a Jehova’s Witness, chase the blighters away, short of throwing stones at them
