Child’s Death in Pool

A four-year-old boy died early this Wednesday morning after falling into the pool of a rural, holiday home in the municipality of Periana,(Axarquía Alta).

It appears that each summer a child drowns in a private pool somewhere in Andalucía and this summer is not going to be an exception, sadly.

The accident happened around half eight in the morning and involved the child of a British family staying at a casa rural. It appears that the family had just arrived at the house to start their holiday the day before. Some sources (112) put the child’s age at three.

An ambulance, the Policía Local and the Guardia Civil Guard were despatched immediately but despite this rapid response, the paramedics could not save the child’s life. An air-ambulance helicopter had also been despatched but the child had already died and hadn’t responded to CPR and other resussitation measures.

An autopsy at the Institute of Legal Medicine of Málaga is needed, however, because although death through drowning seems obvious, other causes have to be ruled out, such as an undiagnosed heart condition, for example.
