Nerja and Maro are now linked by a 3.5 km cycle lane after Nerja Town Hall completed the final 1,200m section.
This last section runs from the Barranco de Maro bridge on the old N-340 to the western entrance roundabout of Maro.

To create this cycle lane it cost 1,229,997 euros, which was part pai for from the municipal coffers and UE funding, with this final section costing for 410,080 euros coming completely from EU Funding (NextGeneration).
The work contract was awarded last autumn with a four-month execution timeline.
The First Councillor for Maro, Nuchi Moreno, said that the lane provides a safe alternative to the N-340 through what he described as landscape of “immense scenic and cultural value.”
