Yesterday was the 15th so we're half way through June and the weekend just gone by was packed with tourists on Salobreña beach... but no lifeguards.
The Town Hall might not consider that we are in summer but the reality is hundreds of tourists and locals who flocked to the beach last Saturday and Sunday definitely consider that summer is here.

However, the public toilets on the beaches were closed, the beach showers were still inoperative and worst of all, there were no lifeguards on duty.
Yes, summer officially begins at the Summer Equinox or if you prefer, the shortest night of the year – San Juan, but the reality is unless you prevent people from using the beach in summer temperatures, you have to provide beach amenities both for convenience and for their safety.
If the DGT (Traffic Departemtent) considers that the summer is already here because they are putting on extra lanes on the autovia because of the weekend traffic down to the coast, why in the hell can’t the Town Hall get it into their heads that summer beach occupation is already here, too.
And then there are the roadworks still going on at the end of the paseo, which is ridiculous, given where we are in the year. Don’t even get me started on the bloody useless lane on the beach road that was imposed during Covid that is still in existence!

Wasn’t that COVID lane meant for people, who in all common sense, should not have gone out. I mean I personally think the previous paved area was wide enough to get a bus past. If you ignore the illegal sellers of wares. Shame the police cannot seem to ever sort that out !! But once victory over COVID was assured. Then it would have made sense, for family days out. That the side nearest the beach, should have either been a drop off point or pay to park. This fantasy of parking at a point near the bus terminal and catching a bus. With Wife. Kids and assorted beach gear. Is just that a fantasy. The ideal either drop off point or cash parking earner. Empty. Now a road with blips in it. Ok I guess for cyclists who cannot understand One Way ?
Why the toilets and beach showers are not available during weekends and numerous bank holidays is a mystery. Life guards too. Brave persons that swim in the sea nowadays. It’s not sharks you should worry about.
Still the Mayor and Councillors know best.
