The Junta has spent 19,000,000 euros with some co-financing through EAFRD funds, on this project, which has suffered all kinds of delays… but, it will be finished!
The project consists of almost building a parallel road from the Tablate bridge to Lanjarón, cutting through hillsides to insert a tunnel or to span valleys just to eliminate bends. We say, “insert” a tunnel because rather than boring through the hillside, they have sliced through it and built a tunnel in the cutting, which will then be covered over.
The tunnel has a length of 70 metres and the bridge, or viaduct, 166 metres, by the way.
Anyway, from Tablate (the abandoned village) to the water-bottling plant at the entrance to Lanjarón, the task is 57% completed.
The next section runs past the bottling plant – the temporary road is governed by traffic lights as vehicles are funnelled through on a single-lane basis – and will reach the town itself.This second section stands at 47% completion. This section will include a cycling/pedestrian path connecting Mirador La Cañona to the old section of the road providing access to La Ermita.
At the end of the day, it will be a goodbye to a 5-metre roadwith no verge and hello to a wider one with 3.5m lanes with 2-metre-wide hardshoulders.
