The Guardia Civil nabbed ten jet-skis found off Playa Cantarriján in La Herradura, inside the boundaries of the Paraje Natural Acantilados de Maro-Cerro Gordo. It was the maritime branch of the Guardia Civil that found them, grouped together close to the beach.

Not only is this beach within a protected, natural-park area where this kind of craft is not permitted, but they were also too close to the beach, had it even been in a non-protected area.

The officers informed the riders that they were in violation of law governing protected, natural areas and would be hearing from the relevant authorities.

The said transgression or violations are: navigating jet-skis inside the protected area; the presence of motorised vessels or nautical watercraft within restricted distances from the coastline, and remaining stationary or anchoring outside of expressly authorised areas. This last one is equivalent to loitering.

The Guarida Civil maintains surveillance operations along the Costa Tropical to prevent “conduct that could affect the conservation of protected areas” and to “ensure compliance with environmental, maritime and safety regulations.”

The Guardia Civil reminds users of jet-skis and recreational boats of the need to consult and observe navigation regulations and environmental limitations for each area in advance, especially in protected spaces, coves and cliffs. Ignorance of the restrictions does not exempt individuals from getting fined.
