Pipeline Nearing Completion

The first section of pipes of the Béznar-Rules pipeline system (Desglosado 9) is only about 200 metres short of its completion point.

They have laid 33 km of pipeline, which is about 16 km in distance, as it’s a double pipeline. With the pipe-laying nearing completion, workers are concentrating on the pumping station and if all goes well, they will break out the party hats and back slapping at the end of June… this year!

The pipeline route starts near the Presa de Rules under the A-346 bridge (where they are presently beetling away) and ends in the Palmares drinking-water, treatment plant.

Not only will residents of the coast be able to slurp water from their taps but irrigation farmers will be able to teach their cabbages to do breaststroke. That is, until they is a multi-year drought and the reservoir bottom will look like Moses passed that way.

However, this is only the first section of the 11 planned pipeline sections; the second one (Deslosado 3) has no funds earmarked yet.

The only proposal on the table is a 100%-financing model, borne by the company water-utility company Aguas de las Cuencas de España (Acuaes) to the tune of 50 million euros to be repaid by the farmers over the following 30 years.

Naturally, more than a few farmers fell to the ground clutching their hearts when they heard of the proposal and consider the idea “unacceptable,” as it would have them going bankrupt. They are asking themselves what happened to the 80-20% idea with the State paying the major share and the irrigators/farmers paying the rest; i.e., 10 million over 30 years?

Anyway, as stated before, one section is 200 metres away from being completed, so algo es algo, no?
