The Good, The Bad & The Ugly

For those wanting to go for a meal up above La Zubia (Granada) at Casa Macareno (El Hervidero) it could end up with it costing you more than what on the table.

However, It has nothing to do with the restaurant, but rather the route that you take to get to Cumbres Verdes where the restaurant is:

The Good: the new BUS-HOV (High-Occupancy Vehicles) lanes, which are normally reserved for buses and multiple-passenger vehicles, can now be used for cars, as long as there are two or more people in them. This allows drivers to avoid road congestion.

The Bad: if you’re driving unaccompanied, which is unusual if you’re going for meal, unless you are meeting the rest up at the restaurant, you are not entitled to use the said lanes.

The Ugly: the DGT have installed cameras on the right-hand lanes in either direction with the software that allows them to judge how many people are in the vehicle, meaning that they automatically formulate a fine which will turn up in your post box…

This road, the GR-3211, is one of the busiest for traffic between the city of Granada and La Zubia, which is really a conurbation.

The cameras, which will monitor the right-hand lanes in both directions, are around the kilometre-point 1.5 are still not set up *Phew!*

Anyway, if you have never visited El Hervidero, you will love it because it is a converted farmhouse but still retaining all the farming equipment and livestock and the fare is simple country grub and a reasonabley cheap. They don’t do cards, so take cash!
