Playa de Las Azucenas

For the first time Playa de Las Azucenas at the eastern end of Motril will have a lifeguard service this summer.

The Town Council opened a bidding process for a new contract that will provide more lifeguards, covering more beaches and during a longer period.

The tender has been put out for €451,000 using the municipal coffers, and should have concluded already or the first fortnight of this month

The Councilor for Beaches, José Peña, explained that up to now, the lifeguard service had 19 employees whereas there will be 25 this summer.

The team will consist of 20 lifeguards keeping watch and going in to rescue people in trouble, two boat captains providing water coverage using two jet skis and a zodiac, two emergency medical staff, and a communications coordinator with the emergency services.

As for when the lifeguard service will start and end, it will be in place from the 15th of June to the 6th of September. Furthermore, the new contract also covers Semana Santa.

Lastly, another beache besides Playa Granada will have assisted bathing services, as Playa Poniente will have its own team and equipment in place.
