Three Canadian men were arrested for the alleged sexual assault of a woman in Barcelona who works as a prostitute.

The incident took place on Wednesday last week in a taxi in the Ciutat Vella district of Barcelona, according to the Catalan newspaper, El Periódico de Catalunya.

The three men are Canadian police officers who were on holiday in the city: one is the man who allegedly sexually assaulted the woman, while another, when she fought back, punched her in the face. The third man was in the front, passenger seat.

Two of the three men were arrested in Barcelona by the Mossos d’Esquadra (Catalan police), whilst the third; the one who allegedly punched the woman, fled the city and was arrested last Friday in Palma de Mallorca.

The man who has been charged with sexual assault without penetration is remanded in custody after appearing in court that Friday, and the other, who occupied the front seat, has been released pending trial, charged with resisting arrest.
