Málaga Local Police cracked down on fraudulent VTC (ride-hailing services like Uber) netting several illegal vehicles in their police operation, Legitimate Transport.
The investigation began with the aim of locating, reporting, and impounding vehicles used to transport passengers without a licence while passing themselves off as bona fide VTCs: Bolt, Cabify or Uber rides mainly in the Málaga-Costa del Sol, Málaga Airport and in areas of the city centre..

They carried out a total of 2,900 checks, leading to 36 vehicles being impounded. They even netted a taxi from another municipality which had been reported for operating without a valid licence.
Twenty-five companies were investigated, and irregularities were uncovered in four of them.
Two of the drivers were found to been in possession of forged documents for use if stopped, who were consequently arrested and charged with document forgery.
Another driver was arrested after officers discovered that he was using the licence plate belonging to another car – The vehicle was impounded.
Lastly, a driver after being stopped and found to be without a licence, had identified himself using his brother’s name instead of his own. He was also found to be in the country illegally and lacked even a standard driving licence.
