The requirement to have a V16 beacon to use in the case of a breakdown or accident came into effect at the beginning of the year, but it is still causing waves.
Now, the Directorate-General for Traffic (DGT) has pointed out that these beacons have a use-by date; something that most drivers are not aware of, so it is advisable to check it to avoid complications later on.

So it’s not good, therefore, just putting it in your glove compartment and forgeting about it, if you haven’t checked the date. You will find the expiration date both on the box it came in, as well as on the device itself.
The beacons come complete with communication systems without depending on mobile applications. Furthermore, telecommunications companies will not charge individuals for this service, as the law establishes a minimum connectivity of 12 years, and that cost is already included in the purchase price.
Regulations require an autonomy of 30 minutes of operation and 18 months in standby mode. When the power is depleted, the user will only need to change the batteries, which in most models are typically AAA.
