It was a local from nearby Quintanilla de Trigueros (Valladolid) who alerted 112 upon coming across a car in flames early last Thursday morning .
Firefighters and the Guardia Civil were soon at the scene and discovered the lifeless body of a man inside the car, along with three dogs. The man and the dogs were burnt beyond recognition.

Officers set about working on the identification of the deceased by tracing the vehicle, which was registered as belonging to a man with the first name of Gerado.
According to the provicial newspaper, El Norte de Castilla, the discovery was made around 09:25h along a dirt track known as the Camino de las Culebras.
Later the identification was confirmed: the victim was indeed Gerado who was about forty-years old. He lived alone with his three dogs in this village of around 100 inhabitants, in a house owned by his parents, who occasionally used it as a holiday home.
The Mayor, Alberto Palomo, says that the news was a complete shock for the villagers. Many say that he was a private person who mostly kept himself to himself, though he was seen walking his dogs every day.
Finally, Initial evidence regarding the incident suggests that the vehicle fire may have been deliberate. Furthermore, the victim had reportedly been involved in apparent self-harm attempts in the past.
At this stage, pending the conclusion of the investigation (which has found no initial evidence of third-party involvement) all signs point in this direction.
Whether accidental or intentional, the victim perished alongside his three pets. The investigation remains open and is being handled by the Guardia Civil in Palencia.
