Secret Files Released

It appears that the Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, has taken a page out of Trump's book (UFO's) to cause a distraction, and has released secret filed on the last military coup in Spain (23F).

He says he has taken this step to settle a ‘historical debt’ with Spanish citizens, after it was approved by his Board of Ministers.

Once the decision is published in the BOE (Official State Gazette), the digital archives will be hosted on the official La Moncloa website.

The release includes approximately 153 document from the Ministries of Defence, Interior, and Foreign Affairs. important material includes transcripts of recorded conversations between key figures, though the specific interlocutors have not yet been fully identified by the government.

Historians hope the files will clarify the exact role of former King Juan Carlos I, the involvement of intelligence agencies (then CESID), and the financial backing behind the plot.

This move comes ahead of the still-pending Classified Information Law, which aims to replace the 1968 Franco-era legislation with a system for automatic declassification after 45 years. It’s been 45 years since the coup, which was on the 23rd of September, 1981

The right-wing parties, PP and Vox have dismissed the announcement as a “smoke screen” intended to distract from current government controversies, and many would agree.

On the other hand, nationalist parties like the PNV and Bildu (regional Basque parties) have welcomed the move but urged the government to also declassify files related to other sensitive historical events, such as the Dirty War (GAL) and the 1976 Vitoria massacre.

The Dirty War was a series of executions carried out against ETA terrorists by a pseudo-terrorist group secretly formed by the Government.
