The announced reopening of Motril's Paseo de las Explanadas has been delayed, despite work completion having taken place on the 10th.
The Town Hall has refused to sign off the work because of the existence of several faults found.

Motril Mayor, Luisa García Chamorro, was very blunt about it, “The works have not been completed to perfection and this Town Hall is not going to sign off on them.”
According to the Mayor, there are two main problems that mean that the paseo cannot be opened to the public. The first are the gardened areas, in particular the lawn/grass – it was planted on the 18th of December but its appearance is “deficient,”
That same day, the 18th of December, grass was planted along the coastal footpath, on the Playa del Cable section and it is completely grown and green, she pointed out, whilst the Paseo de las Explanadas’ hasn’t fully taken, meaning that it will be necessary to dig it up and to sow it are again.
The second problem, which could be considered more serious, concerns the paving stones: of the 24,000 paving stones, between 300 and 400 are defective.
According to the Ley de Contratos del Sector Público, once finished, the company has two months to put things right, meaning that as the company declared the works finished on the 10th of January, they have until the 10th of March to sort out the problems.
Another problem is that the paving stones were designed and made specifically for the paseo, meaning that you can’t just go out and buy more from a shop, nor ask for more from the suppliers and expect to have them the next day – it takes about two weeks to produce a batch.
