Cabria Storm Damage

Mancomunidad Chairman, Rafael Caballero, was down in the Cabria area of Taramay in Almuñécar nodding sagaciously at the repair work going on there.

Accompanied by the Councilor for Maintenance, Francisco Rodríguez, the Manager of Aguas y Servicios (the water untility company) Alejandro Jurado, they watched workmen repairing the mains waterpipe that had been ruptured by storm water coming down the barranco.

Storm Francis dropped up to 90 litres per sq/m in several parts of the comarca, which caused the barranco to burst into life on Tuesday and take out the mains water supply to several homes down that way.

Obviously, work couldn’t begin straight away because they had to wait for the storm water to subside. When it eventually did, they soon located the rupture.

Aguas y Servicios, the company responsible for managing the water supply on the Costa Tropical, announced that the barranco crossing will be replaced with a more resistant solution, using jacketed piping, with the aim of reinforcing the infrastructure and minimising risk during future Noah’s Ark episodes.
