Opening Dates Given

The Mayor of Almuñécar, Juan José Ruiz Joya, made two announcements before a gathering of the press yesterday in the Palacete de la Najarra (Tourism Information Office).

He said that the Almuñécar Aquario would be opened on December the 29th and added that the Municipal Market would be opened on February the 28th, which is the Día de Andalucía.

He went on to explain about all the problems that the aquarium had which had to be sorted out; problems that had led to it being closed to the public.

Regarding the inauguration of the Almuñécar Municipal Market, scheduled for February 28th, he said that it would be an “important day for our town and Andalucia.”

Now, at this point reader’s should be thinking, Hmmmm. But anyway.

He went on to wring his hands with, “Nobody knows the hardships this has caused us.” and thanked his councillors heading the Urban Planning and Maintenance Department for their efforts in this respect.

Editorial comment: And here is what we mean with “Hmmm…” Andalucía has its regional elections in June next year, so this inauguration of the Market, especially on the Día de Andalucía, is about how close the Mayor can get it to the elections without running fowl of the law that prohibits public inaugurations timed to conincide with elections. Remember that his party, the PP, also runs the Junta de Andalucía.

Many might consider that there is no reason why it couldn’t have been inaugurated before.
