Nerja Town Hall is trying to get a project through to provide the town with a long-awaited bus station, instead of the present bus-stop arrangement.
What they have done is establish a Protocolo General de Colaboración with the Junta de Andalucía, whose funding they need.

The idea is to jointly begin a study for a bus station which will be placed on top of the planned car-park building next to the nacent Centro Médico. In other words, a study on a proposed bus station on top of a proposed car-park facilities to be erected next to a Centro Médico under construction…
Mayor José Alberto Armijo, who enjoys an absolute majority, said that his cabinet “is working in a decided manner” to bring about an “integrated mobility solution.”
The idea of having the bus station on top of the parking facility (with 847 parking places) is to encourage a sort of park-&-ride arrangement, especially in the congested months of summer; park your car and hop on a bus around town.
Anyway, this latest move is just to get a joint study on a possible bus station and not a move to build one. Both administrations will have to agree on a timeline, financing and how to integrate the new location with the existing arrangement; i.e., a series of bus stops near Avenida de Pescia with a ticket kiosk.
So, it’s not exactly a first step but rather, ‘tying your shoes laces’ before taking one. And it’s not the first time that the idea has been put on the table, either.
In March, 2023, Nerja and the Junta agreed to push ahead the future construction of a bus station in this location. However, after a year’s lull, it was reactivated with reservations — the Town Council admitted that this location could slow things down and were looking at an alternative location for the bus station, near the area known as the Rapto de Europa, which was later rejected.
In the meantime, the Town Hall is splashing (Junta) money (70,233 euros) near the Balcón de Europa in order to stabilise the cliffs on the western side. First they will pull down the unstable bits, then put up a heavy-duty, triple-torsion mesh. After that, they will replant vegetation.
What else? Yes! They’re going to pull down the old Discoteca Narixa on Calle Tajillo and turn the plot into a public square-cum-mirador with views to the sea with pedestrian access to Playa de El Salón and the Mirador de Chanquete. It has a budget of just under 40,000 and an execution period of one month.
