Skiing This Bank-Holiday Weekend

Sierra Nevada had another helping of snowfall yesterday leaving between five and ten centimetres of new snow in Pradollano and Borreguiles.

This, of course, means that they have been able to open up more ski slopes. According to the yesterday’s snow report, the station maintains temperatures of –7 °C and powder-quality snow, with thicknesses ranging between 30 and 40 cm.

Currently, seven of the 23 ski lifts and nine of the 139 slopes are operational, offering a total of eight kilometres of skiing out of the 112.5 km available. Furthermore, five of the 12 activities offered at the station remain active.

However, by this weekend, which is a bank-holiday weekend with the 6th being the Day of the Constitution, there will be a greater skiable area.

By Saturday there will be 18 skiable kilometres thanks to the incorporation of new slopes in Borreguiles and especially the opening of the El Río slope, where, after the snowfall on Wednesday, the generation of snow produced is concentrated. This is the largest ski offer on a Constitution bank holiday in the last four years. A total of 10 lifts (two gondola lifts, 6 chairlifts and two starter mats) will be operational this weekend.

Along with the opening of El Río, which opens this Friday and which allows the skiable slope to be increased to 925 metres, the slope services incorporate other slopes for Saturday such as Laja, Amapolas, Panorámica II or Termópilas, all of them in the Borreguiles area.

Today the quality of the snow, powder-quality with thicknesses of between 30 and 40 cm, has improved substantially thanks to these latest snowfalls.

According to the Spanish Meteorlogical Institute, occasional snowfall is likely to occur between Thursday night and Friday.
