The Valencia Health Department’s Inspection Service launched an investigation on Friday to clarify the circumstances surrounding the death of a 6-year-old girl following dental treatment.
She had received treatment at a dental clinic in Alzira. Another minor who also received treatment at the same clinic is currently hospitalised in the ICU.
The Health Department’s Inspection Service stepped in on Friday the 22nd of November and ordered the temporary suspension of operations at the dental clinic where both girls had been treated. Inspectors held a meeting with the anesthestist the following day.
The 6-year-old girl died on Thursday the 21st after being treated at said clinic in Alzira (Valencia), and a 4-year-old girl remains in a stable condition in the ICU at the Hospital Clínico de València.
According to the Ministry of Health, this clinic is not authorised to perform anesthesia procedures, including sedation with intravenous drugs.
The 6-year old had been admitted to the A&E at Hospital de la Ribera in Alzira at 16.52h in a state of cardiac arrest. Medical staff attempted resuscitation without success and pronounced her dead.
The 4-year old had been admitted to the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit at the Hospital Clínico. It so happens that at 15.11h that same day, another 4-year-old girl, who had also been seen that morning at the same dental clinic, went to the A&E at the Hospital de la Ribera in the same province.
