The square in the centre of Motril, which every knows as Las Palmeras, although its official name is different, was an open-air pharmacy on Wednesday.
The Colegio Oficial de Farmacéuticos de Granada and Sandoz, organised the Carpa de la Salud, which attracted around a hundred locals to get advice from the 30-odd pharmacists (chemists) manning the small, open-sided marquee.

Throughout the day, as locals stopped lurking in the shadows and siddled over, the whitecoats gave them the once over, checking their weight, age and offering vein tests to calculate their cardiovascular risk, along with tests for diabetes and osteoporosis. In fact, they even examined their mental state!
Doctor (not a MD but a PhD) Quesada also emphasised the closeness of chemists with their customers, “In these encounters people show a greater confidence in us, giving them authentic and useful scientific information; something that is fundamental in today’s world,” he concluded.
In the Carpa de la Salud were also Hospital and Primary Care Pharmacists, who explained their role and how they worked alongside docors, nurses and social workers in vaccination campaigns.
