Facade Crumbles

A good chunk of a building facade fell off onto the street below in the centre of Motril, yesterday around noon.

This occurred on Calle Catalanes and the Policía Local were obliged to close the street to traffic as well as to the pavement on the side of the affected building.

The photo was taken by Ideal journalist, MJ Arrebola, and by then much of the debris had been removed. The Motril Fire Service also had to pull down some of the more precarious sections which were at a risk of coming down by themselves later.

Obviously, this attracted quite a few curious locals and some people who lived down that same street asked permission from the police to use it, keeping to the opposite side to the affected building.

Fortunately, nobody was passing below when parts of the facade came down so nobody was hurt.
