A pretty bizarre incident occurred early Monday morning in Nerja; a man in his 20s was rescued in the middle of Río Chíllar after getting lost on his motor scooter.

His scooter had become wedged between rocks on the riverbed. How the hell he managed that is open to speculation.

Bear in mind that access to this area has been prohibited since August 2023, even to people on foot, let alone motor vehicles under any circumstances.

So, on Monday, around 07.40h (before dawn) the emergency call centre, 112 was contacted by a relative of the ‘victim,’ so say that his was lost and injured.

The caller omitted to mention that the victim was on a scooter. In fact, the caller claimed that the victim had left his car parked outside the area and that the reason he needed rescuing was because he was ‘lost and tired.’

By ten that same morning the young man had been rescued and had been taken to the Centro de Salud for a check up. Imagine the surprise of the fire personnel and Guardia Civil officers who had been sent out to rescue the young man to find the man sitting on the river bank next to a scooter wedged between two large rocks.

Admittedly, the victim was showing signs of ‘confusion, desorientation and exhaustion,’ after getting lost in the river area.

Editorial comment: no mention of the fate of the scooter was made in the press release, nor whether the victim was from Nerja.
