Mayor Condemns Gaza Killings

The PP Mayor of Almuñécar, Juan José Ruiz Joya, has finally condemned the slaughter being carried out in Gaza, now that his party in Galicia has adopted that posture.

It is surprising that he has not said anything at all about the situation in Palestine up until now despite the fact that Almuñécar is twinned with a town in Gaza; something that one of our readers, Julie, has pointed out on previous occasions.

This condemnation came about during a Plenary Meeting of the Town Council that was held yesterday where the Mayor qualified the situation there as, “un genocidio en toda regla” (a full-blown genocide).

His full statement was: “In the name of the Town Council, we effusively condemn the suffering amongst the people of Gaza, especially our kin in Khan Younis. It is a full-blown genocide that we hope will ends soon. It is a barbaric act that sees millions of people displaced from their homes and thousands of adults and children dying in totally disproportionate attacks, beyond common sense. We hope that this ends quickly and from here in Almuñécar we send a strong embrace to our twinned town, Khan Younis in Gaza.”

Editorial comment: you took your bloody time, Juanma, given the twinning with Khan Younis, waiting until your a party leader at the opposite end of the country decided to condemn it. Even now the national leader of your party has still not fully condemned it.

As soon as the attack on the 7th of October occurred, everybody condemned it utterly, yet even now when you dare mention the genocide being carried out by a people who should know better, you still have people saying , “What about the Hamas attacks!” That was condemned at the time, now condemn them both; not just one.

A terrorist is a terrorist and they terrorise; the clue is in the name, but when a state terrorises defenceless civilians; the old, infirm, women and children, it becomes a terrorist state – let’s call a spade a spade.
