Speed Cam Active

There is one particular speedcam on the Granada bypass that was installed a year ago, but had been only 'benevolently' active... began fining yesterday.

You see, there was a grace period where drivers who were caught by the camera speeding merely got notified that they had been knabbed but there would be no accompanying fine.

Now, on the section of the autovia where it is skulking, if you do over 90, you’ll get a fine notification for 100 euros. This speed trap is one of the 32 speedcams that DGT Tráfico has set up this summer over Andalucía!

So where is it? It is near the La Chana, off-ramp which connects with the Avenida de Andalucía. In other words, it’s between kilometre point 10 and 12 on the GR-30 bypass.

This section of the bypass has a high density of traffic and collisions are frequent, so keeping the maximum speed of 90 does help reduce the accident rate.

As for how much a fine can be, the Annex IV of the Ley de Tráfico quantifies speeding fines as from 100 euros to 600 euros and a maximum loss of six points from your licence.

Here are the speeds and their corresponding fines on the 90 kph maximum section of the bypass.

From 91 to 120 kph: 100 euros
From 121 to 140 kph: 300 euros and the loss of two points
From 141 to 150 kph: 400 euros and the loss of four points
From 151 to 160 kph: 500 euros and the loss of six points
Over 161 kph: 600 euros and the loss of six points
