Strange Timing

The Mayor of Motril explained that asphalting began on Wednesday on one of the main entrances into Motril from the autovia on the eastern side of town and would be finished by the 2nd of August.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Public Works has announced that roadwork on the Sierra Nevada access road will begin… in November.

So, the question is, why when Motril is stuffed with summer visitors did they decide to asphalt one of the main access? Granted, they have been working on turning this single-lane road in either direction into a double-lane one for some time, but would it have hurt to wait until after summer?

And as for deciding to carry out roadworks on the A-395, which is the principal access road to the Sierra Nevada ski resort in November with winter virtually at the door, seems… bloody imbecillic. I mean, why not do it in the summer (next summer, if they were not ready for summer 2025) when everybody is heading down to the coast and not up to the Sierra Nevada?

One of the tasks along 20 kilometres of this mountain road is to stabilise cuttings, as there have been rockfalls and landslide. The thing is, in the summer it doesn’t rain, but it does in late autumn; i.e., November.

Should they really be farting around with unstable cuttings when there is H2O in abundance falling out of the sky? It reminds me of the pipe laying in the bed of the Río Guadalfeo, which should have been done in the summer, but was being done in autumn and sections of pipe were washed away or buried under silt.

I am really going to have to open up a “Grumpy Corner” section on this site, because God knows that I am not the only person who visits the site that sits on the porch and barks at everybody who goes by.
