The Town Hall has installed 33 LED-lighting street lights along the Avenida de Marina del Este, from Hotel Best Alcázar down to the Marina.
The low-consumption lighting also covers the parking area next to the Marina; whether that is the parking next to the beach, or the one next to the guard post with the barrier, is not clear from the press release.

This lighting project had a budget of 15,000 euros and, the Town Hall claims, is part of its “drive to be more efficient, sustainable and respectful of the environment.” Lord, don’t politicians love using the word ‘sustainable!’
Not only are the street lights equipped with low-consumption LED lights, but they are also powered by solar energy, so, the investment will eventually pay for itself, especially because they have movement detectors that will switch them on and off, as well as regulate the intensity of the light given off according to how much traffic there is.
The Municipal Councillor for Public Works, Francisco Rodríguez, said all sorts of wonderful things about the new lighting, the administration to which he belongs, and his new shoes.
Reportedly, he also won the runner-up prize in a competition for attempting to pull his own foreskin over his head… in the Circumcised Category, which just goes to show that no challenge is a serious draw-back for him.
Anyway, back to the lighting, the First Councillor for La Herradura, Elena Mora, pointed out that the area sees a lot of transit from residents and tourists and needed efficient lighting that didn’t have a high running cost (electricity consumption).
Neither of these two Town Hall representatives mentioned the new building development going up just above and behind the Chiringuito Marina Playa, which last summer played havoc with this popular business because of the heavy machinery constantly chipping away at bedrock pushing clients away because of the noise. This summer, they assured me, building activity is much quieter and isn’t scaring people away anymore.
