The neighbourhood association for Salobreña Old Town held their 'Spring Lunch' with around 70 residents (most of whom were foreigners) attending, so it was a sort of inter-cultural lunch.
Although the grub was mainly Spanish cuisine, there were also examples of Indian, Swedish and German dishes.

Now, the reason for the title of this article is was what they decided upon during this munch meeting: a campaign against dog droppings in the streets entitled, Ojú qué asco (Blimey, that’s disgusting).
“This is an unsustainable problem that causes concern amongst residents in the area, which we are going to denounce in a clear and energetic manner,” explained the association Chairman, Jorge Martín.
Chairman Martín insisted that the aim of the campaign was to put a rocket up the… of dog owners who are only too happy to let their mutts, adorn the pavements with canine, crap.
The campaign has already begun and posters and stickers are being put up around the parts of town that are most affected. Radio Salobreña is also collaborating with spots in English and Spanish until the 30th of May.

Reader’s comment: “I heard that there is a program in Malaga where they can poopscoop and as the dogs DNA should be on file it is easy to find the culprit. Dogs have to have a chip with the info on file and a tag to show it has been registered. A big fine can be issued for not having this tag. Even though not a nice job I expect that there would be enough volunteers working on commission to collect and send in. If the fine was say €1000 to the owner and €300 paid to the collector I thing the problem would soon end. Similar plans could be done for fag buts as the smokers DNA would also be present. Problem here is that not everyone is on the DNA data base…………..I now duck whist people explain why we all should be or not.” – Paul Craddock
